Carney Extends UK Term to 2020

Mark Carney - Bank of England

CBJ — Former Bank of Canada Governor Mark Carney will delay his political aspirations here in this country for a bit longer after it was announced he agreed to extend his period as governor of The Bank of England by six months until January, 2020. The original departure date was June, 2019.

The 53-year-old Carney made the decision to stay in London the initial phases of Britain’s exit from the European Union. He took the governor’s position back in 2013.

Great Britain is due to leave the EU in March 2019 but there is uncertainty as to how it will leave. Though the extension is shorter than expected — most were predicting Carney would carry on for another year.
