March 2009

March may have come in like a lamb—albeit a cold lamb—but for George Media, we’re roaring into the month with more growth and a big move into a new office space. Amidst economic strife, we find ourselves excited about what’s happening here, and so we present this month’s issue of The Canadian Business Journal.

Speaking of growth, we’re not the only Canadian company who has good news. Gold prices have kept Detour Gold Corporation well into the black; Byblos Bakery is continuing to fill empty stomachs; and Ed Brunet & Associates keeps catering to their niche market—to name a few.

February 2009

Here comes February... Not every Canadian’s favourite month, but often a time when business starts to level out, after the panic of January dies down and we gear up for the rest of the year.

Fortunately for George Media, things have been moving along at light speed. We had record traffic to our website last month, and received an overwhelming response to January’s magazine. February’s issue is definitely our biggest and best issue yet. This month we’ve got coverage of the Vancouver Resource Investment Conference (and stories about many companies that attended), an interview with Arlene Dickinson, who you may know from watching CBC, and lengthy discussions with companies like Pacific Western Brewing, Koss Aerospace, and Sunny Crunch Foods.

January 2009

This month’s issue is brimming with positive stories from Canadian companies in so many sectors – from health care to pharma, transportation to.... beer. Media has been up and down on the topic of the economy, so this month we thought it might be good to challenge some of the gloom and doom of economic forecasts. We’ve highlighted several stories about companies taking innovative approaches to doing business in a slower period. Although 2009 might be tough on lots of us, it’s important to consider that hard times come and go. But even if your investments have dwindled, or your house value has gone down – Canadian businesses are resilient. Canadians are resilient. Things will right themselves.

In this issue you’ll find some very interesting commentary from Canadian business leaders eager to talk about current issues affecting their enterprises. During our discussions with companies like Selwyn Resources and ISL Engineering we tried to focus on items like safety and the environment, but it was tough to ignore the elephant in the room – Canada’s economic decline.

That being said, the companies we spoke with were mostly optimistic about the coming year, and we hope you’ll enjoy their stories in our Canadian Business in Action section.

November 2008

For the November edition, we focused on the instability of the market (of course), the environment, and what happened (or didn’t happen) in the Federal Election.

We addressed these issues with some of Canada’s top executives in the energy, resource and packaging industries – to name a few. We spoke with the General Manager of Kidd Mine about what a good safety rating can do for business, and we had an interesting discussion about the shifting marketplace with Marid Industries.
