Plaza Premium Lounge Network manages and operates more than 90 lounge locations across 23 international airports — Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Macau, Kuala Lumpur, Kota Kinabalu, Penang, Kuching, Langkawi, Johor, Singapore, New Delhi, Hyderabad, Malé, Muscat, Riyadh, Jeddah, Damman, Madinah, Toronto, Vancouver, and Edmonton. In Canada, the company has almost 125 employees, and focuses on expansion opportunities across major Canadian airports, with lounge operations currently in Toronto, Edmonton, and Vancouver. The company plans additional expansions in the future, with the goal to provide Canadian travellers with luxury airport lounge services from coast to coast. Brent Bowes, Business Development Manager of the Canadian Plaza Premium Lounge Network, said, “Notwithstanding our humble beginnings back in 1998 at the Hong Kong International Airport, we continue to grow our business. With lounges in Toronto, Vancouver, and Edmonton, we cover three of the major departure points in Canada. We have three lounges at the Vancouver Airport, covering all departure points. We have five lounges at Toronto Pearson between Terminals 1 and 3 which cover all departure points at Toronto Pearson with the exception of Terminal 3 U.S. Transborder. We also have a domestic/international departures lounge and a U.S. Transborder lounge at the airport in Edmonton.

Luxury without Reservations

While the airlines usually offer premium lounge services to their First Class, Business Class and Frequent Flyer clients, Plaza Premium Lounge works as an independent provider, allowing all travellers to use their airport lounge services as a walk-in for a fee, no reservations required, and regardless of airline or class of travel. The goal of Plaza Premium Lounge is to create an oasis of peace and tranquility within a hectic airport environment. Plaza Premium Lounge locations may offer services such as private resting areas, TV and reading material, fine dining services, shower, beauty, massage and spa services; and for the business travellers strapped for time, Plaza Premium Lounge can arrange baggage pick up and drop off on arrival and departure; limousine, Wi-Fi, and even Meeting Facilities for those who meet with clients at the airport while in transit.

Plaza Premium Lounge works to create a luxurious environment in each of its locations. To this Bowes said, “We are currently introducing what we call Plaza Network’s ‘fourth generation’ lounge, because as we plan our service offerings, we incorporate new designs to accommodate these services; so for example as we are building our new, 7,000 square foot lounge at Terminal 3 in Toronto, we are incorporating new designs and spectacular finishes, including marble flooring and wooden curtain walls to create a luxurious environment. We also continue to refine our food and beverage service. While our lounges currently offer a self-serve buffet and a bar service, we plan to refine our food service in our new lounges with an open-kitchen concept, and ‘A la carte’ foods offered throughout the day. So as we continue to build new lounges around the world, we continue to evolve our lounge designs as well as our service level.”  

Airline Partnerships

Besides allowing all passengers to simply walk in and use the Plaza Premium Lounge facilities for a fee, Plaza Network also works and creates partnerships with airlines. Bowes said, “The situation is that some of these airlines may not have their own lounge or may not have access to an alliance partner lounge at these airports, and that’s where Plaza Network steps in. We have over 20 partner airlines, for example Emirates, Etihad, Caribbean Airlines, WestJet and Sunwing in Toronto; while in Vancouver we have Virgin Atlantic, Air China, China Southern, China Eastern, China Airlines, KLM, and a whole roster of other airlines. We accept the First Class and Business Class passengers coming through these airlines.”

American Express

Besides working with airlines, Plaza Premium Lounge Network in Canada also opens its doors to cardholders of American Express. Bowes pointed out, “If you are an American Express Platinum or Centurion charge cardholder, you have complimentary access to our lounges, but we find still that many AMEX cardholders are not aware that they have this benefit provided to them by simply being an AMEX cardholder.” The Platinum AMEX cardholders can bring one unrelated guest or a spouse and two children along with them to the lounge; while the Centurion AMEX cardholders can bring two unrelated guests, or a spouse and unlimited number of children along with them to the lounge, all complimentary.”
