450 Layoffs Coming at Ford

CBJ — About 450 jobs are being cut from the Ford Motor Company plant in Oakville, just outside of Toronto. The layoffs are expected to take effect early in 2020.

The reason for the dismissal of so many jobs is because the plant is ending production of its Ford Flex and Lincoln MKT models.

It is believed Ford is going to concentrate on other models that are showing greater potential for sales growth.

The 450 job losses are in addition to the 200 cuts announced in July.

Unifor, the union representing hourly workers at the plant, says the company has indicated it will be eliminating one of three shifts in the plant’s auto body shop and reducing assembly line speed as further cost-saving measures.
