Carney May Extend Stay in UK

Mark Carney - Bank of England

CBJ — Former Bank of Canada Governor Mark Carney has hinted that he may remain in the same position in the United Kingdom for longer than anticipated in order to facilitate a smooth Brexit transition.

As of now, the 53-year-old Carney’s planned departure will be June, 2019, but insiders say it’s doubtful he’ll leave by then.

It’s long been thought that Carney wants to return to Canada and enter politics.

The British government’s discussions with the EU haven’t gone well over the past few months. And, it’s been a bumpy domestic ride for UK Prime Minister Theresa May as well, who has had to deal with several key resignations from her cabinet, most notably Boris Johnson as foreign secretary and David Davis as Brexit secretary.
