Disney and Fox Resume Talks

CBJ — Talks have resumed between Walt Disney and Twenty-First Century Fox about the former purchasing a large chunk of Fox’s media assets. However, Comcast remains in the picture and may also come back with a more substantial offer.

A deal with media with Fox would give Disney more shows and movies for television and online distribution at a time when companies such as Amazon.com and Netflix are spending billions to bulk up on programing. It will also expand Disney’s international reach and diversify its revenue as U.S. cable subscribers decline.

The Murdoch family, which controls Fox, is said to prefer a deal with Disney because it would rather be paid in Disney than Comcast stock, and expects a deal with Disney would be cleared by U.S. antitrust regulators somewhat easier.
