GM Adding 1,000 New Jobs
CBJ — According to reports initially published by the Globe and Mail and Toronto Star, it appears as if General Motors Canada is set to announce up to 1,000 new jobs in Canada.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne are expected to be on hand when the announcement is made at GM’s Canadian headquarters in Oshawa on Friday. The initial reports say the new positions will eventually be spread out at a number of General Motors research and development facilities.
General Motors said in 2012 that it would spend $750 million on research and development by 2017 under a commitment to the federal and Ontario governments, which provided some of the money for a 2009 bailout of its U.S-based parent.
