CBJ — General Motors has announced plans to build a new technical performance center by the middle of the year. The facility will be located near the Charlotte Motor Speedway in North Carolina.

It’s expected the 75,000-square-foot facility will ready to use by June of this year. It’s uncertain how many people will work out of the performance center.

The geographic location was based largely on the fact it’s close to a number of Cadillac and Chevrolet racing team partners and parts suppliers.

The main focus of the performance center will be to transfer auto racing knowledge into engineering for vehicles that are sold to the public.
