Lyft Offering Electric Rides
CBJ — Passengers who use Lyft’s ride-hailing service as a means of transportation will soon be able to request a ride in an electric or hybrid vehicle.
The new service will launch in Seattle and then branch out to other cities. The cost will be the same whether passengers choose to ride in an electric or traditional vehicle.
Lyft Chief Operating Officer Jon McNeill says customers and drivers in the Pacific Northwest have been asking for greener vehicles and they are responding in kind.
Uber launched a feature in June that notifies passengers if they’re in an electric vehicle.
Launched in June 2012, Lyft operates in approximately 300 U.S. cities, including New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco, providing more than 1 million rides per day.
In Canada the service can be found in cities such as Toronto, Hamilton and Ottawa. It’s main competitor is Uber, which launched the concept of the ride-hailing service a decade ago in March, 2009.
