Marble Slab Creamery
Originating in Texas in 1983, Marble Slab Creamery entered the Canadian ice cream market in 2003 to the delight of Canadian ice cream connoisseurs. Setting up its original shop in the Chinook Centre Mall, Calgary, the chain has expanded to 80 locations throughout British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, and Nova Scotia, taking a large bite out of Canada’s $433-million ice cream market. On the 10th anniversary of being in the Canadian market, we talk to the team at Marble Slab Creamery about making the world’s freshest ice cream.
“Marble Slab Creamery’s recipe for success is staying true to founder Cam Ingles’ original vision of providing the highest quality ice cream, with every batch of Marble Slab Creamery made fresh in small quantities in store,” says Larra Caldie, Marketing Manager at Marble Slab Creamery. The ice cream recipe, inspired by chefs and always made with local dairy products, is used to create no less than 50 flavours of gourmet ice cream for customers, from amaretto to white chocolate and everything in between. To customize their own personal creation, customers can choose from a variety of fresh mixins—such as candies, nuts, fruits, chocolates, and cookies—to create a unique product they won’t soon forget.
They are innovators in the ice cream segment, and the original developer of the now famous “frozen slab” technique for ice cream preparation. Once a customer has chosen an ice cream flavour and topping, they get to watch as the employee mixes it about on the marble slab in front of their eyes, then put into a hand-rolled waffle cone. Whatever you try, you can expect to discover something incredible.
“The thing about Marble Slab Creamery is we really want to be able to provide our customers with an old time ice cream shop feel,” says Caldie. “We want them to have a great experience that is all about ice cream, the smell of vanilla waffle cones rolled in store, and all the colours and the fun of ice cream.”
This direction is working. Marble Slab Creamery is providing Canadians with a high-end retail ice cream option, emphasizing freshness and quality. Marble Slab’s personalized menu is an affordable everyday luxury that brings a smile to patrons’ faces.
“This is not just ice cream, it is the overall experience of creating your own creation,” says Caldie.
The Marble Slab Creamery experience can uplift social events as well; birthdays, company parties, reunions, or any special event can be enhanced with Marble Slab Creamery. From Sundae Bars, ice cream cakes and ice cream cupcakes, to a portable slab, Marble Slab Creamery’s catering can bring the in-store experience to your gatherings.
The company’s principles make it an attractive choice for potential franchisees. The company’s record speaks for itself: Entrepreneur magazine rated the company as one of “America’s Top Global Franchises”, and claimed the No.1 spot for Limited-Service Restaurant Chain in Nation’s Restaurant News 2012 Consumer Picks. This success mirrors the reception the company has had amongst Canadian franchisees, who are growing the brand by six locations annually. Innovative, committed to business improvement and marketing expertise and R&D going beyond the product to keep things fresh, Marble Slab Creamery Canada’s business infrastructure provides strategic brand management and offers new franchisees many advantages.
Marble Slab Creamery represents the pinnacle in gourmet ice cream. What started out as “unusually” high standards makes Marble Slab Creamery a memorable experience for customers aged four to 104. In the words of Ingles, “It isn’t just dessert, it is the world’s freshest ice cream made just how you like it.”
