Musk May Have Interest in GM Plants for Tesla
CBJ — Elon Musk, the eccentric leader of Tesla, says he is interested in acquiring the soon-to-be-closed General Motors factories and use the facilities to assemble his line of vehicles.
Musk made the comment during an interview with CBS’ “60 Minutes”.
However, there are some who believe this is more sizzle that steak. Musk is known for making outlandish statements, and the jury is out as to whether he’s serious about this or if it’s merely a ploy to attract more media attention focused on himself and Tesla. For those who think it could be real they point to the fact that Tesla is running near its production limits at its existing factory in California and will need to expand somewhere in the near future.
One of the five facilities earmarked for closure by GM at the end of December, 2019 is the assembly plant in Oshawa, Ontario, about 60km east of Toronto, where 2,500 people are employed.
