Phil Richards’ Orangeville Hyundai dealership grew from a love of the automotive industry. This dedication and enthusiasm is reflected in the interactions Richards has with each visitor. Together with his sons, Ryan and Eric, Richards has created a place where customers can rest assured their automotive needs are the first priority.
Starting a New Success Story
Phil Richards spent the majority of his adult life working within the banking industry. He served with the Bank of Montreal for 35 years, successfully reaching the position of Director of Corporate Finance Automotive. In 2006, Richards had the opportunity to visit Hyundai’s head office in the Yangjae suburb of Seoul, South Korea. The facility’s
efficient operations and superior product resonated with Richards. Upon returning home, he decided to take a chance with a second career. In March 2007, Richards purchased Orangeville Hyundai.
With the help of his eldest son Ryan, Richards built up a reputation as a trusted auto sales advisor within the Dufferin area of Ontario. Ryan holds a Bachelors of Business Management from McGill University and an Automotive Marketing degree from Northwood. In 2010, after completing his Bachelor of Business Management at the University of Guelph, Richards’ youngest son Eric, joined the team.
Orangeville Hyundai’s 14,000 square foot facility boasts an expansive 8 car showroom, 10 service bays, and a beautifully decorated Parts & Service reception area.
In 2011, after receiving hugely positive feedback from the local community, Richards decided to invest in the opening of a new Kia dealership. Orangeville Kia opened its doors in June of that year. The facility’s design perfectly matches Richard’s welcoming attitude and customer-centric approach. The 11,500 square foot building features a 10 car showroom, a full Parts & Service department, and 5 service bays.
Ryan currently acts as General Manager and Director of Sales of the Hyundai and Kia locations, ensuring all visitors are welcomed and find the right vehicle to fit their needs. Eric focuses on providing customers with an exemplary Parts & Service experience under the role of Fixed Operations Manager. Combined, the Orangeville dealerships employ 25 valued staff members. The team’s most recent addition, the beautiful Ana Richards, optimizes customer safety through her role as Car Seat Checker.

“I always try to educate clients when they visit,” explains Eric Richards, “Many people don’t know how to properly maintain a vehicle. I teach each customer about the functionality of their car, and present them with maintenance options to allow them to decide what kind of service they’d prefer.”
Those who visit the Orangeville Kia location also have the opportunity to meet Mr. Biggs, the notorious C.A.T. This feline Director of Sleeping looks forward to greeting each customer with open paws and a friendly smile.
Giving Back to the Community
Part of Richards’ success stems from his active presence within the wider Dufferin Area. The Orangeville Hyundai and Orangeville Kia teams each operate as donation drop-off points for the Orangeville Food Bank. For the past five years, the dealerships have supported the fundraising campaign for the expansion of the Orangeville Headwaters Health Centre.
Orangeville Hyundai and Orangeville Kia are also the lead sponsors for the Athlete Institute Basketball Academy. This new yet internationally renowned preparatory school offers high school basketball players the opportunity to improve university and scholarship prospects. Several students have gone on to play basketball at a professional level, including Jameson Tipping of the Brampton A’s and Joseph Schow of the UK’s Medway Park team.
