Posties Working 7 Days a Week
CBJ — In doing their part to clear a backlog and ensure Christmas parcels reach their destinations on time, postal workers in Canada are delivering parcels seven days, according to Mike Palacek, national president of the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW).
The union was legislated back to work on November 27 by the federal government when an agreement could not be reached between the union and management at Canada Post.
Palecek said the union cannot confirm a claim made by Canada Post in a statement that the Crown corporation has a backlog of 6 million parcels. Canada Post has said it cannot guarantee packages will be delivered in time for the holidays because of the backlog.
Since the strikes officially ended, protests have taken place outside some Canada Post facilities. Palecek said the pickets have been organized by other unions in support of postal workers.
