CBJ – The value of sponsorships on the front jerseys of top-tier European soccer teams continues to skyrocket.

Since last year, the value has shot up 24% on the top six leagues: England’s Premier League, Germany’s Bundesliga, Spain’s Primera División, France’s Ligue 1, Italy’s Serie A, and the Dutch Eredivisie.

Cumulative sponsorship numbers according to the research firm Repucom add up to $778 million U.S.

Over the last 10 years, shirt revenue has more than doubled for the six leagues. The English Premier League leads the way with a 36% increase over last year. Individually, Manchester United signed a seven-year, $559 million (U.S.) deal with General Motors to put Chevrolet on its Jerseys. The record-setting agreement helped Manchester United move closer to Spain’s Real Madrid in Deloitte’s annual ranking of the wealthiest soccer clubs. Real Madrid gets a reported $55 million (U.S.) from its jersey sponsor, Emirates airline.
