Strike or Lockout Possible at Canada Post

CBJ — It looks as if there could be mail service disruptions as soon as the latter part of this month on word that Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers appear to be far apart on reaching a new contract.

A strike or a lockout will not be legally possible until Sept. 26. As of now, neither side has threatened to take such drastic action. However, some utility companies have started warning their customers that paper bills may not be delivered on-time and that it’s contingent upon customers to be sure they pay their bills on time. Online payments are an option that many have already signed up for in that regard.

CUPW has been holding strike mandate votes across the country over the past few weeks.

The two sides have been talking about new contracts since last November.
