T’is the Season for Reading — Sunwing Foundation Brings Flying Start Book Drive Initiative to the 2018 Toronto Santa Claus Parade
TORONTO, Nov. 02, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Adding a hint of orange to this year’s Toronto Santa Claus Parade, for the first time ever, Sunwing will be sponsoring the annual must-attend event on Sunday, November 18th with a vacation-themed float. The Sunwing Foundation will also be participating and giving spectators a chance to drop off books and enter a contest.
Established by the Sunwing Travel Group as a way to give back to the destinations they serve, the Sunwing Foundation will be collecting new and gently used children’s books for their ongoing Flying Start program that helps children start their own book collections and encourages a love of reading from a young age.
Throughout the day, the Sunwing Foundation will be situated in front of the Royal Ontario Museum to encourage the public to donate books before, during and after the parade. Beloved children’s characters Max & Ruby™ will also be onsite at the ROM for photo-ops with kids. Families visiting the Sunwing pop-up during the parade will receive free giveaways and can enter for the chance to win a trip to Royalton Riviera Cancun Resort and Spa in Mexico.
All book donations will be flown to Sunwing destinations starting with the island of Tobago, which Sunwing recently announced they’ve added to their lineup for the coming winter. This activation is one of many carried out since Flying Start’s launch earlier this March and supports the foundation’s goal of providing students at local schools with the essential tools and building blocks they need for a successful education. Recent initiatives have included partnering with emergency response charity, GlobalMedic, to donate school supplies and books to the island of Barbuda and donating almost 3,000 books for Read Across Jamaica Day.
