UK Allows Partial Huawei 5G

CBJ — Great Britain has decided it will allow Huawei of China limited access to develop sections of its new 5G high-speed mobile network. Although there are many restrictions on what Huawei will be able to do, it’s still viewed as somewhat of a setback to the United States, which has been pressuring its main allies to ban the Chinese company altogether due to spying concerns.
The U.K. government said it is excluding “high risk” companies from supplying the sensitive “core” parts of the new fifth-generation, or 5G, networks. It will permit those suppliers up to 35% of the less risky radio access network, which includes radio antenna on cellphone towers.
Canada has yet to make a final decision on whether Huawei will be permitted to supply 5G equipment to Canadian consumers and businesses.
