Unemployment Rises To 6.8%

CBJ – Figures released Friday morning by Statistics Canada indicate 1,000 jobs were lost in February.  Despite the downtown the figures were better than expected as many economists had been predicting about 5,000 job losses due to the decline in oil prices.

The unemployment rate went up .2% to 6.8%.  Figures also showed that more people were out looking for work.

Optimism still can be found in expectations moving forward, with some economists pointing to a strong January where more than 35,000 new jobs were created.
