Will Eagle Spirit Pipeline Get NEB Approval?

CBJ — The $16-billion Eagle Spirit Pipeline project could win regulatory approval from the National Energy Board (NEB) if the federal government backs down on its plan to ban oil tanker traffic on the north coast of B.C. That’s the optimistic word coming from Eagle Spirit President Calvin Helin.

According to Helin the pipeline project from Fort McMurray in northern Alberta to Prince Rupert, B.C., has several key advantages over the Trans Mountain Pipeline expansion whose regulatory approval was recently overturned in court.

Helin has stated that Eagle River has 100% Indigenous support along the proposed route and that shipping oil from its port near Prince Rupert is very low risk. Both have been mentioned as key stumbling blocks for Trans Mountain and it’s route from the Edmonton area to the Vancouver area.
