51 MIKISEW GROUP OF COMPANIES APRIL 2026 « The Canadian Business Journal 50 digital infrastructure and enterprise systems designed to capture and analyze operational data at scale. “Automation and data are going to change how maintenance is done,” Epp says. “We’re moving toward a more predictive approach rather than reactive.” By using maintenance histories, work orders, and asset performance data more effectively, the Group aims to improve planning accuracy, reduce unplanned downtime, and enhance operational visibility for clients. “We’re not using the data we already have as efficiently as we could,” Epp adds. “That’s going to change.” Safety Innovation as a Service Line Among the Group’s fastest-growing offerings is Proveo, a majority-owned company providing remote confined-space monitoring services. Traditional confined-space work requires personnel physically stationed at each entry point—a model that carries inherent risk. “With Proveo, instead of having someone standing at every confined space opening, we use technology,” Epp explains. Using sensors, live video, communications systems, and digital access controls, a centralized command centre can monitor multiple confined-space entries simultaneously. Workers receive real-time information like temperature, oxygen levels, gas readings, and hazards—before entering. “It keeps people safer, reduces exposure hours, and creates a better experience for workers and clients.” As regulatory acceptance expands beyond Alberta, the Mikisew Group is investing further in these remote monitoring capabilities, expanding both the scale and scope of its technology, and positioning safety innovation as a highly adaptable and scalable service line within its broader maintenance portfolio.
